While Mommy Was Away

One of our March rituals is me leaving town for a big industry conference (usually in Las Vegas), so Jamie had a long week of single parenting. Before I went I had to get Easter outfits sorted out (so the girls could wear their new dresses to the Indian Princesss Father-Daughter dance the next week) and here Katie is wearing her new "high heel" sandals. Can you tell from her pose that she feels very fancy?
To add to the challenges of that week, Jamie had a number of work dinners, so he had our sitter come three nights that week and she also got to take the girls to a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese, which was Caroline's first friend party that just she was invited to. Katie and our sitter were also there, so they helped Caroline play the games. Isn't Katie's outfit looking fabulous . . . very Flashdance-inspired, I think.

Caroline had a great time at the party and Jamie said that as soon as she realized what the tickets were for, she was on a mission to win some!

Originally, I wasn't going to get home until Saturday evening, but thankfuly, I was able to leave earlier and make it home Friday night, which enabled me to see the crew off for the Father-Daughter dance. Caroline was so excited to be included!

We had fun doing hair and a smidge of makeup, which Caroline was very excited about . . . and Mommy was excited about having a quiet evening to herself!

Jamie and the girls went went out to dinner at a Japanese steakhouse with other dads/daughters and then had a terrific time at the dance. Jamie reported that Caroline was a dancing machine and the DJ kept the kids very busy with hula hooping, contests and prizes. It looked like a lot of fun!
