Last of Summer

Katie made it through her second week of school and I think we are adjusting to our new routine.

As I ended the last post, I mentioned that Jamie had been in Chicago. He got to be the hero of the day as he brought home some gifts for Katie and Caroline from American Girl. They got a cook book that shows some fun dessert recipes- it was our bedtime reading all last week. I think Katie and I both fell asleep dreaming of treats!

Jamie also selected twin "garden party" outfits and the tea set that went with them.

The gifts were a huge hit, but the girls definitely had different ideas about how to play with it. Katie wanted everything just so and Caroline wanted her doll to sit on the tea cart. They both couldn't wait to find their chance to play with it alone!

Saturday we went to an Irish Pub to watch the first Notre Dame football game of the year and enjoyed a fun victory. Caroline asked "Why do they keep touching down?" We told her to just enjoy it because you never know when it will come to an end!

Our friends were also there for the second half. Katie and Caitlin enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the bartender make fun drinks, while Caroline was busy entertaining herself with this pole. Needless to say, people found it pretty funny!

Caroline also chose to wear her tiara to the event, which added to the festiveness, don't you think?

On Sunday Katie joined me to volunteer at my Rotary Club's booth at a local festival. She was a great help serving pop and my fellow Rotarians found her to be very entertaining.

Sunday morning we braved the rain to attend a parade. We upheld our tradition and got Tim Bits donut holes, which makes it even more fun for the girls.

Caroline was very enthusiastic and we all enjoyed it.

After rest time we headed out to a second festival and the girls enjoyed some rides.

And treats!

It's not pictured, but we ended our day with deep fried twinkies, and boy were they good! No one wanted to put down their twinkie to snap a photo, but they are our new favorite fair food.
